Abstract: In this paper we present faunistic records of 20 weevil species of the tribe Cleonini and 19 species of the genus Lixus Fabricius, 1801 from the Czech Republic, based on our study of museum and private collections. The following species are published for the first time from the Czech Republic, or formerly doubtful occurrences are confirmed: Coniocleonus cicatricosus (Hoppe, 1795), C. excoriatus (Gyllenhal, 1834), Pachycerus cordiger (Germar, 1819) and Lixus elegantulus Boheman, 1843. Lixus angustus (Herbst, 1795) is new for Bohemia. The formerly doubtful occurrence of Lixus cardui Olivier, 1808 is confirmed in Bohemia. For each species we assign an updated IUCN red list category (cf. Benedikt & Strejček 2005) on the basis of current/historical number of localities (faunistic squares) for each species. The following species, 18% of the total number, are only known from historical records (before 1970) and are now regarded as regionally extinct (RE) in the Czech Republic: Adosomus roridus (Pallas, 1781), Bothynoderes declivis (Olivier, 1807), Coniocleonus cicatricosus (Hoppe, 1795), C. excoriatus (Gyllenhal, 1834), C. hollbergi (Fåhraeus, 1842), Lixus elegantulus Boheman, 1843 and L. neglectus Fremuth, 1983. About half (44%) of the total species are regarded as endangered (EN) or critically endangered (CR), another 20% are classified as vulnerable (VU) or near threatened (NT). Only a small proportion (18%) is regarded as least concern (LC) in the Czech Republic. The causes of endangerment are discussed along with possible measures to improve habitats for Lixinae weevils in the Czech landscape.

Pavel PechMyrmica curvithorax (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in the Czech Republic: a contribution to the knowledge of its distribution and biologyKlapalekiana 49(3–4): 197-204Abstract: The biology of the West Palearctic species Myrmica curvithorax Bondroit, 1920 is poorly known. In general, it inhabits salt marshes and xerothermous grasslands, especially patches with low, thin vegetation. The presence of M. curvithorax at three localities in the Czech Republic has been previously documented and published; specimens from another 10 localities are in the collections of P. Pech and P. Werner. Myrmica curvithorax occurs mainly in dry, sunny, human-altered grassy biotopes. Seventeen nests were found to contain on average 400 workers and 0.6 queen (maximum numbers were 1231 workers and 5 wingless queens). Myrmica curvithorax seems to be an oligogynous species, and most nests had no queen.
