Abstract: Thirteen new species of the genus Stenus Latreille, 1796, from Madagascar are
described, illustrated and compared with related species: S. (Stenus) merina sp.
n., S. (Hypostenus) bulirschi sp. n., S. (H.) ambondrombe sp. n., S. (H.)
vohitrosae sp. n., S. (H.) lecoqi sp. n., S. (H.) misaraka sp. n., S. (H.)
moraveci sp. n., S. (H.) betsileo sp. n., S. (H.) andringitra sp. n., S. (H.)
maromiza sp. n., S. (H.) manga sp. n., S. (H.) tsara sp. n. und S. (H.)
stolarczyki sp. n. S. (H.) sanfilippoi Puthz, 1996 is placed in synonymy with
S. (H.) trepidus Waterhouse, 1877. New data on the distribution of additional
28 species of Stenus from Madagascar are presented. A checklist of Madagascan
Stenus species is also provided.
