Abstrakt: Lethrus (Lethrus) ares sp. n. from the Greek Thrace (Evros district) is
described. The new species belongs to the species of the nominotypical subgenus
having anterior pronotal angles evenly arcuate (not projecting considerably
anteriad) and lacking subbasal tooth of ventral mandible process in males. It is
compared with closely related species L. (L.) raymondi Reitter, 1890 and L.
(L.) rotundicollis Fairmaire, 1866. Relevant diagnostic characters (ventral
mandible process in male), and external male genitalia of the new species are
illustrated. The distribution of the new species is mapped.
