Abstract: In 2008, we recorded 113 species of Aculeata (Hymenoptera) on two xeric slopes (Macošská and Vilémovická stráň) in the Moravian Karst PLA. Altogether we recorded, based on status in the Red List of Invertebrates of the Czech Republic, 1 extinct, 3 critically endangered, 6 endangered, and 3 vulnerable species. Priocnemis mesobrometi Wolf, 1958 was recorded in the Czech Republic for the first time for about 60 years and Andrena rosae Panzer, 1801 was recorded for the first time for more than 40 years in Moravia.

Abstract: Butterflies and burnets are conspicuous insects often used in ecological studies and as ecological indicators in non-forest habitats. These groups include many species which can provide information about the condition of, and changes to, the environment. I used both groups to study non-forest habitats in a densely populated area in eastern Polabí (Elbian) lowland, with a long history of human land use. I studied the presence and abundance of species within transects in five localities – from wet (hydrophilic) through medium wet (mesophilic) to dry (xeric) grasslands. During the 2008 season I observed 811 individuals of 34 butterfly and burnet species, including several threatened or rare species such as Argynnis adippe (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775), Boloria euphrosyne (Linnaeus, 1758), Phengaris (syn. Maculinea) teleius (Bergsträsser, 1779) and Phengaris nausithous (Bergsträsser, 1779). Probably the most important species of the study area is Zygaena carniolica (Scopoli, 1773). Argynnis adippe and the two Blues of the genus Phengaris Doherty, 1891 occurred at relatively high population densities and it is probable that they are spreading through the area. In the area studied, wet meadows dominated, but the xeric ones appeared to be more species rich. The xeric sites were more similar to each other in terms of the assemblages of species supported. Xeric habitats supported fewer threatened species, possibly because of more pronounced fragmentation of these habitats in the area studied.

Abstract: Adinopsis mauritiana sp. n., belonging to the tribe Deinopsini, is described and illustrated from Mauritius (Mascarene Islands) and distinguished from allied species. New data on the distribution of Adinopsis lemur Janák, 1996 from Madagascar are presented. A World checklist of the Adinopsis species is provided.

Abstract: A new locality for Catoptria confusella (Staudinger, 1882) was recently discovered approx. 10 km from the northern edge of Prague, in the Vltava river valley. In the Czech Republic this species is only known from two areas – central Bohemia and southwest Moravia. Its habitat is linked to the phenomenon of so-called river canyon valleys. Its occurrence in central Bohemia represents the northernmost and currently also the westernmost point of its known European distribution.

Abstract: The recent finding of a living specimen of the Ponto-Mediterranean assassin bug Nagusta goedelii (Kolenati, 1857) (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Harpactorinae) from the city of Prague, Czech Republic, is reported. This is a new record for the Czech Republic and the northernmost record of this species. However, we rather suppose that this finding is the result of an accidental introduction with trade, and that the species is probably not yet established in the Czech Republic.

Abstract: The ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) was introduced as a biological control agent for aphids in several continents, including South America, and has become an invasive species in many countries. It has been reported from Brazil, the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul and from Argentina, specifically Buenos Aires. Here we announce the first record of this species for Uruguay. We found several adults in 2009 and a group of early instar larvae in 2010, strongly suggesting that this species is established in Uruguay.

Records of 25 species: Euplagia quadripunctaria (Poda, 1761), Polyploca ridens (Fabricius, 1787), Tethea ocularis (Linnaeus, 1767), Comibaena bajularia (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775), Cyclophora porata (Linnaeus, 1767), C. quercimontaria (Bastelberger, 1897), C. ruficiliaria (Herrich-Schäffer, 1855), Eulithis mellinata (Fabricius, 1787), Euphyia biangulata (Haworth, 1809), Idaea degeneraria (Hübner, 1799), Idaea fuscovenosa (Goeze, 1781), Idaea rusticata (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775), Idaea subsericeata (Haworth, 1809), Stegania dilectaria (Hübner, 1790), Aedia funesta (Esper, 1786), Celaena leucostigma (Hübner, 1808), Conisania luteago (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775), Conistra ligula (Esper, 1791), Epilecta linogrisea (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775), Eremodrina gilva (Donzel, 1837), Eugnorisma glareosa (Esper, 1788), Hoplodrina superstes (Ochsenheimer, 1816), Mythimna turca (Linnaeus, 1761), Orthosia miniosa (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775) and Rhizedra lutosa (Hübner, 1803), are discussed.

Abstract: New records of butterflies and large moths (Macrolepidoptera) for the Hořovice region (Central Bohemia, Czech Republic) are presented as a supplement to a previous article "Lepidopteran fauna of the Hořovice region" published in Klapalekiana in 1999. Thirty-five additional species were recorded between 1999 and 2009.
