AnonymouscoverKlapalekiana 39(1–3): Roman BorovecRevision of genera Gyratogaster, Leianisorhynchus and Altonomus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Entiminae: Cyphicerini)Klapalekiana 39(1–3): 1-30Abstract: The genera Gyratogaster K. Daniel et J. Daniel, 1903 and Leianisorhynchus Pic, 1905 are transferred from the tribe Omiini Shuckard, 1840 to Cyphicerini Lacordaire, 1863 and listed near to the genus Altonomus Desbrochers, 1907 in the subtribe Mylacorrhinina Reitter, 1913. All three genera are redescribed. All species from these genera are redescribed, illustrated and listed in keys and in the check-list. Two new species are described, Gyratogaster podlussanyi sp. n. from Turkey and Altonomus jelineki sp. n. from Israel. Gyratogaster comosa K. Daniel et J. Daniel, 1903 is removed from synonymy with G. larinoides (Reitter, 1896) and reinstated as a valid species. New combinations are proposed: Leianisorhynchus wittmeri (Pesarini, 1971) (from Gyratogaster), Altonomus modestus (Iablokoff-Khnzorian, 1957) and A. vernalis (Iablokoff-Khnzorian, 1957) (from Mylacorrhina Reitter, 1913). Holotypes of Gyratogaster larinoides (Reitter, 1896) and Altonomus villosus (Reitter, 1906) and lectotype of Altonomus reitteri (Stierlin, 1884) are designated. Males of Gyratogaster rufithorax Pesarini, 1975 and G. podlussanyi sp. n. are the first males of the genus Gyratogaster to be described. Genitalia of both sexes are described and illustrated in all three genera for the first time.
Roman BorovecRevision of genera Rhinodontus and Trachyphilus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Entiminae: Trachyphloeini)Klapalekiana 39(1–3): 31-51Abstract: Three new species of Rhinodontus Faust, 1890 and one new species of Trachyphilus Faust, 1887 are described and illustrated: Rhinodontus mongolicus sp. n. from Mongolia and R. crassiscapus sp. n., R. sawadai sp. n. and Trachyphilus chinensis sp. n. from China. New synonymy Rhinodontus ignarus Faust, 1890 = Rhinodontus proximus centralis Voss, 1967, syn. nov. is proposed. Rhinodontus hirsutus Formánek, 1916 is transferred to Pseudocneorhinus Roelofs, 1873. Redescriptions of Rhinodontus ignarus Faust, 1890, R. proximus Voss, 1967, Trachyphilus saluber Faust, 1887 and T. sordidus (Sharp, 1896) are provided. All species from these two genera are illustrated, keyed and check-listed. New distributional data are presented for all redescribed species. Lectotypes of the following species are designated: Callirhopalus sedakowii Hochhuth, 1851, Pseudocneorhinus hirsutus (Formánek, 1916), Rhinodontus ignarus Faust, 1890, Trachyphilus saluber Faust, 1887, Trachyphilus sordidus (Sharp, 1896) and Trachyphloeoides sordidus (Faust, 1890).

A key to species similar to T. fusciscapus Desbrochers, 1909 is given. Complete data on the distibution of T. fusciscapus and T. melitensis Borovec et Osella, 1993 are presented. T. fusciscapus is recorded from continental France for the first time as well as T. melitensis from Sicily.

Twenty-four species are currently known from the Czech Republic. Distribution of all species is commented. First exact data on the occurrence of Hypera arundinis (Paykull, 1792) in the Czech Republic are presented. H. cumana (Petri, 1901) is recorded for the first time from the Czech Republic. A single old Moravian record of H. constans (Boheman, 1834) was probably based on misidentified specimens of H. cumana. H. striata (Boheman, 1834) is recorded from Moravia for the second time. The following ambiguous faunistic data are discussed: the possible first records of H. fornicata (Penecke, 1928) from the Czech Republic, and of H. ononidis (Chevrolat, 1863) and H. striata from Bohemia. Hypera libanotidis (Reitter, 1896) was collected only in two or possibly three Moravian localities and is now probably globally extinct. New observations on larval development are described for H. nigrirostris (Fabricius, 1775) and H. plantaginis (De Geer, 1775): larvae of H. nigrirostris feed inside unripe flowers of Trifolium repens. Larvae of H. plantaginis develop on Anthyllis, Coronilla, Lotus and Oxytropis of Fabaceae, not on Plantago of Plantaginaceae, where they only build the cocoon and pupate.

Nowadays, it is in the state ownership. For almost a century, the area was free of any large-scale economic activities, including agrichemical impacts. Thanks to that, a mosaic of valuable woodland as well as open (forest steppe, meadow and steppe) habitats has been preserved here. From the biological point of view, it is a unique set of lowland habitats, the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic. The former Mladá MTA has been accessible only since 1991, after the withdrawal of the Soviet Army. So far, no systematic zoological research has been carried out here, with some exceptions. However, the available fragmentary data obtained during one decade give clear evidence that this area is especially when considering its size a supraregionally important refuge of environmentally sensitive species of animals. Of the Specially Protected Species listed in the Czech legislation, seven critically endangered, 17 severely endangered and more than 37 endangered animal species and five plant species have been recently found here, as well as 15 animal species and two plant species belonging to the "NATURA 2000 species". Some very important faunistic findings have also been made in this area, including two species known in the Czech Republic and nine species known in Bohemia only from the Mladá MTA. Following the update version of the national Red List of Vascular Plants, one critically threatened species, two strongly threatened species, ten threatened species, and ten rare or scattered species were found in the area, requiring further study and monitoring of their occurrence. The Škoda Auto company, based in Mladá Boleslav and being a part of the Volkswagen concern, has been planing to construct a car-testing polygone of about 470 ha in the former Mladá MTA which would include large changes of public road network. The course of events concerning the case between August 2002 and November 2003 is reviewed. Activities of the Czech Entomological Society during the process are mentioned, all official documents issued by the Society dealing with the case in the above period are presented. These activities were concentrated on the effort to induce negotiation with the Ministry of Environment, on the process of permit granting (exceptions to the act concerning Specially Protected Species) and on the effort to achieve designation of a temporarily protected area. Attention is paid also to the results of mapping of NATURA 2000 habitat types in the former MTA of Mladá.
