Faunistic records of the critically endangered Psarus abdominalis (Diptera: Syrphidae) from the Czech Republic

Abstract: Psarus abdominalis (Fabricius, 1794) is a rare and declining species of hoverfly
(Diptera: Syrphidae) endemic to Europe. In the Czech Republic, the species is
classified as critically endangered. Based on specimens deposited in museum
collections, I provide information on the historical distribution of the
species in the country. Psarus abdominalis was not recorded in the Czech
Republic since 1978. Recently, in 2021, a single male of P. abdominalis was
recorded on southern Moravia (in an oak forest near the village of Mutěnice).
