Abstract: Available faunistic data of the Lepidoptera from the peat bogs in the
surroundings of the Malé and Velké Dářko ponds (Radostínské rašeliniště
National Nature Reserve and Dářko National Nature Reserve) are summarized in
this paper. Most data were obtained through author's own research, chiefly by a
light trap installed in the central part of the Radostínské rašeliniště
peat bog during 1995–1997. In total, 716 species of Lepidoptera were
collected. Selected families obtained by the trap are quantitatively evaluated
(a total of 20,500 specimens and 339 species) and Shannon index of species
diversity, Simpson index of dominance, and Shannon index of equitability are
calculated. The results from the Dářko peat bogs are compared with results
from other thirteen, predominantly wetland sites in the Českomoravská
vrchovina highlands. The comparison focuses on species that demonstrate a higher
affinity to wetland and peat-bog type biotopes in the Czech Republic and species
which occurred at more than 1% frequencies in the quantitatively-assessed sample
(eudominant, dominant, and subdominant species). The area of the Dářko peat
bogs is currently the only refuge for typical peat-bog Lepidoptera in the
Českomoravská vrchovina highlands. The following tyrphobiont species were
identified: Glyphipterix haworthana (Stephens, 1834), Athrips pruinosellus
(Lienig et Zeller, 1846), Acronicta menyanthidis (Esper, 1789), and Amphipoea
lucens (Freyer, 1845). Among them, A. menyanthidis was most frequently trapped;
the ability to reach high values of dominance was confirmed for other
tyrphophilous species. Frequency of some bioindicator species, primarily
Coenonympha tullia (Müller, 1764), dropped in the course of several past
decades. Incidence of several characteristic species, including Colias palaeno
(Linnaeus, 1761), was not recently confirmed in the area in spite of focused
monitoring.
