Five new species of Argoptochus from Greece and Macedonia (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Entiminae: Phyllobiini)

Abstract: Five new species of the genus Argoptochus Weise, 1883 from Greece (A. russelli sp. n., A. robustus sp. n. and A. pelletieri sp. n.) and from Macedonia (A. voriseki sp. n. and A. moraveci sp. n.) are described, illustrated and compared with closely related species. Taxonomic position of the genus is discussed. All known species of Argoptochus are keyed and listed. Holotype of A. reitteri Formánek, 1908, and lectotypes of the following species are designated: A. graecus (Stierlin, 1887), A. leonhardi Schilsky, 1912, A. longisetis F. Solari, 1926, A. lukjanovitshi L. Arnoldi, 1965, A. megacephalus F. Solari, 1926, A. minimus (Formánek, 1905), and A. schatzmayri F. Solari, 1926. Argoptochus markovensis Angelov, 1987 and A. reitteri Formánek are recorded from Turkey for the first time, as well as A. bulgaricus Angelov, 1987 and A. schatzmayri F. Solari, 1926 from Greece, A. championi championi (Reitter, 1891) from continental Greece, and A. periteloides (Fuss, 1861) from Bulgaria. Female genitalia of Argoptochus are studied and spermathecae of all examined species are illustrated for the first time.
